The European Union (EU) expects cooperation with Russia’s gas giant Gazprom regarding gas transit via Ukraine, EU ambassador to Russia Vygaudas Usackas said in an interview aired by the Rossiya-24 TV news channel on Thursday.
“The issues of delivering gas via Ukraine are still very important for the EU. We hope Gazprom, which should care for its solid reputation will behave accordingly,” he said.
“We’re interested in creating various options for our consumers. We’re forming our energy union and working with various sources. We’re also keen to promote new technologies,” he added.
Earlier Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Russia does not plan to fully abandon gas transit via Ukraine though the country is reluctant to transit gas under unfavorable conditions.
